Superb Solids can be adapted for any age from year 4 to year 13! This is a 3 hour session which is split in to two 90 minute halves with a break in the middle. Explore the weird and wonderful solids that can be made from regular polygons in this exciting 4 hour session, aimed at students from year 4, all the way up to year 13.
- After learning about different types of solids, we discover all the Platonic Solids by making them and then prove why there can't be any more.
- Shapes, angles and tessellations are all involved.
- Visualisation is a key part of the next activity when we start truncating the solids.
- We investigate the wonderous properties of all the Archimedean Solids by completing a problem solving task using clues.
- Finally, students will make any polyhedron of their choice from cardboard tiles which they can keep as a souvenir, as long as they can pronounce its name and tell us 3 facts about it!
This session is suitable for all abilities and up to 30 children can be catered for. All equipment will be provided.
